San Jose, so much more than a stopover

I know that almost no one thinks of San Jose, Costa Rica, as a touristic place where you can have adventure and see a lot of wildlife. But the truth is that it is a place filled with things to do like visiting volcanoes, going on canopy tours or rafting.

It is also a place where you can learn a lot about the country’s history and culture. It also has markets, a lot of restaurants with all types of food and great bars. In general this is a great and super fun place to visit for any traveler.

Whenever I got to the Central Valley, better known as the San Jose Region, there were four things I had to do, even if I had done them before, for me they never got old.

First there is the canopy tour just because I love flying above the forest. For this my favorite place to visit is Turu Ba Ri because they also offer a butterfly garden, botanical gardens, trails, air trams and living museums. So you can spend a fun day without having to visit many different places.

The next best thing to do is La Paz Waterfall and Gardens because it’s not only a beautiful place with waterfalls but also because it has an enclosed ranarium (frog pond), that my son loves, a reptile house, an orchid garden and a hummingbird garden.

I think there’s a tie between this one and La Paz. Because whenever I’m around I can’t decide which one I should do first. All I can say is that I love Volcano Tours because they take you for a walk up active volcanoes: Poas and Irazu.

Last but still super fun and exciting: Hiking along the Braulio Carrillo National Park. It has easy to moderate trails. This gives you the opportunity to look for animals and birds and believe me, you will find many.

So whenever you are around try any of these I guarantee you will have a great time.
