Editus, Costa Rica's Only Three Time Grammy Award Winning Band
Editus, a Costa Rican musical group merges modern and traditional jazz, new age, classical music and the authentic sound of Latin America. This is the only three time Grammy award winning band from Costa Rica.
Editus is comprised of three major artists, Ricardo RamÃrez, violinist, EdÃn SolÃs, guitarist and Carlos Vargas, percussionist. Ricardo and Edin are both graduates of the University of Costa Rica in music. Carlos is a graduate of Conservatorio Castella. They are often accompanied by popular vocalist - Ruben Blades, keyboardist - Walter Flores and electric bassist - Marco Navarro among others.
Editus has toured more than 30 countries in North America, Europe and Latin America and have performed in such venues as New York's Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Olimpia in Paris, the Montreux Festival in Switzerland, the Auditorio Nacional and Plaza del Zocalo in Mexico City. In addition to performing, Editus also offers clinics in Costa Rican and Latin American music at such locations as Berklee University in Boston, University of Mass. Bowling Green University in Ohio, University of Wisconsin, University of Florida, Florida State and Northeastern University.
Editus has won the National Award “Ancora†in music in Costa Rica by La Nacion, the major Costa Rican Newspaper. It was honored as “The Group with the Best International Projection†by The National Association of Authors and Musical Composers (ACAM). They were also named the Artist of the Year in 2000 and Personality of the Year in 2003.
Editus has recorded ten albums to date and has performed on the soundtrack to Ruben Blade's Tiempos.
Each album is very different, some feature their own compositions or compositions of other Costa Rican artists. Two entitled Siempre vol 1 and 2 feature universal songs by writers such as John Lennon and Christopher Cross. One entitled Poetica offers a selection of poems by Costa Rican authors read by actress Haydee de Lev musicalized and performed by Editus. Others feature some of the world's best classical music.
