Playa Cocles, Costa Rica
The beautiful white sand beach of Playa Cocles will leave you breathless. Surfers and travelers from all over the world congregate here to surf and enjoy beach life at this off-the-beaten track location, joined by local surfers from all over the country. This beach is generally considered the best surfing beach on the southern Caribbean coast. It has great waves and is free from dangerous reefs. It is also the only beach on the Caribbean coast that has life guard service 7 days a week. Combined with several other beaches in the area, this stretch of the coast offers waves for surfers of all levels of ability. It is also a great location to start to learn how to surf, as surfing lessons, equipment rentals and surf packages are readily available and affordable. Besides surfing, Cocles Beach is an excellent beach for sunbathers and there is plenty of shade and private space for those who want to unwind with a book. From Playa Cocles you can easily walk to other beaches and Puerto Viejo is just a kilometer to the north.
