Playa del Coco, Costa Rica
Located just 20 minutes from Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Playa del Coco is widely regarded as Costa Rica’s diving capital. There are more than 30 dive sites within a half-hour boat ride, and dive courses are offered by a handful of operators. The scenic horseshoe bay, dotted by fishing and sailing boats, is the main base for big game fishing and a convenient departure point for surfers heading north to Witches’ Rock. The town offers good restaurants and colorful nightlife. The gray sand beach is 3-km long and has calm surf that is safe for swimming, which makes it a popular weekend destination for Ticos. Most hotels and vacation rentals in Playa del Coco are located close to the beach and town center. A few resort complexes here have luxury condos for rent, and standard hotel accommodation lines the streets between the main shopping area and the beach.
