Playa Junquillal, Costa Rica
A peaceful and beautiful blue-flag beach 3 km south of the town of Paraiso, Playa Junquillal can be accessed through Villareal from the north or Santa Cruz from the east. Despite of the presence of a handful of small hotels and restaurants in the area, this 3-km long beach is mostly deserted, making it ideal for those looking for serenity and seclusion. Although it has some attractive surf spots, Junquilla is still a secret waiting to be discovered. The beach, apart from being pristine, also has a unique landscape owing to its backdrop of grasslands.
Besides surfing, horseback riding on the beach, sport fishing, snorkeling and diving are the main activities here; camping out under the stars is also a favorite. Mountain bikes are available for hire. For a diversion, visit the village of Junquilla nearby, explore the surrounding dry tropical forest, or go beach hopping – there are so many wonderful beaches in either direction. If you prefer to do nothing however, Playa Junquilla may be just right for you.
