Playa Potrero, Costa Rica

Playa Potrero is a 4-km long bay with serene waters, estuaries and mangroves. The south end of the bay is home to the Flamingo Marina, the first full service marina on the pacific coast between Acapulco and Panama. At the northern end of the beach, nestled between the hillsides and the gorgeous beach is the small and peaceful fishing community of Potrero.

About 8 km north of Flamingo, Potrero offers a quieter atmosphere for vacationers who prefer to be away from the hustles and bustles. With just a few condominium communities spread out along the broad beach, there is plenty of privacy and room to enjoy sunbathing, swimming or simply walking on the beach and admiring sunsets. Other activities offered by tour companies here include snorkeling, scuba diving, sportfishing, horseback riding and kayaking. For nightly recreation, hop over to Flamingo where you can move to the beat in the disco, roll the dice in the casino, or slip out to the terrace for a romantic dinner and drink under the stars.

Potrero is an easy 40-minute drive from the Daniel Oduber International Airport. However, coming from San Jose it could take up to 5 hours by car. If you have to land at the international airport near San Jose, consider taking a 45-minute commuter flight to the Tamarindo airstrip, followed by a 20 minutes’ ride by car or taxi to Potrero.
