Costa Rica is not a gourmet paradise...

Costa Rica is not famous for its food, compared to say France or Spain or Thailand. Most locals are satisfied with the ‘sodas’ that serve a simple fair. Fresh fish and prawns are always the best choices if you are on the coast. There are some high quality restaurants in the more established tourist destinations, such as Tamarindo and Manuel Antonio, and a few in San Jose.

For more tasty food without paying too much, head for a Peruvian restaurant. Ask the locals for recommendations. If fast food is your choice, you will find various Pizzas franchises as well as Wendys and MacDonalds.
