Are all Costa Rica beaches for surfing?
No, there are beaches that surfers avoid due to the lack of strong waves...
There are beaches that are calm and are nice for swimmers and snorkelers. If you are looking for calm waters and swimming beaches, visit the beaches in the Manuel Antonio National Park, they are famous for their natural beauty, and beaches in Guanacaste such as Playa Coco, Playa Conchal, Playa Flamingo, Playa Potrero, Playa Samara and Playa Pelada are swimmable. On the south Pacific coast, beaches within the Ballena Marine National Park, such as Playa Colonia, Playa Uvita, Playa Pinuela and Playa Ventanas attract many locals who go there to picnic and swim.
The more famous surfing beaches on the other hand are beaches such as Playa Pavones, Playa Zancudo and Playa Dominical in the south Pacific, Playa Hermosa (which hosted the world championship surfing festival in 2009) and Jaco in the mid Pacific, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Langosta, Playa Grande and Playa Negra in the north Pacific.
