What is Uvita Beach like?
Playa Uvita is a 2-km long beach which attracts picnickers, swimmers, snorkelers, divers, strollers, joggers and hikers.
Uvita Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the south Pacific Coast, and is well-known for the rich marine life that exists around the Uvita Point, making it a top spot for scuba diving and snorkeling. Uvita Beach is especially famous for its ‘whale tail’ formation, a kilometer-long sand bar with gently lapping waves on both sides, leading to an impressive T-shape sprawl of layered coral rocks at the fin of the whale’s tail. At low tide, one can walk along the sand bar with gentle waves from Hermosa Beach on one side and Uvita Beach on the other. At the other end of the beach, the Uvita Mangrove Swamp is where you can spot aquatic birds such as the Snowy Egret, White Ibis and Osprey.
