While Playa Uvita itself is not a surfers paradise, there are three beaches within 15 minutes' drive to the north where you will meet up with other surfing enthusiasts.

At the northern tip of Playa Hermosa you can find challenging waves but the rocky outcrops make this an ‘experts only’ area.

Further north you have Playa Dominicalito, which is more popular with intermediate surfers and beginners.

The best surfing can be had on Playa Dominical, the main surfing beach for the entire south coast. There are numerous surf schools and surf shops here.
