From a regional perspective, there are not many places in Costa Rica that are as safe and as peaceful as this yet under-developed area.

Other than having rental cars being broken into and personal belongings stolen, Uvita is not known for any other type of tourist incidents. There have no violent crimes like those that occur in San Jose. Uvita has good tourist police and the main beaches are well patrolled. Try not to leave things such as a cell phone visible in the car while visiting beaches because that alone could invite a break-in.
