Costa Rica has two distinct seasons, the dry and the wet. The dry season is known as ‘summer’ and it runs from December through April; the wet, or rainy season, is known as ‘winter’ and it lasts from May through November; to give this season a ring of appeal, it is often referred to as the ‘green’ season by the tourism industry.

Majority of visitors to Costa Rica arrive during the dry season, hence this is the ‘high’ season in terms of lodging prices. In the low season, lodging prices can come down significantly for those who appreciate cooler weather and less crowded beaches; and even during the rainy season, mornings are still mostly sunny. September and October are usually the wettest months of the year for the Pacific coast, while the opposite is true for the Caribbean coast.
