From Uvita you only need to drive a little into the hills to experience the richness of the rainforest and the small animals and birds that make it lively and exciting.

The hills around Uvita are covered by dense rainforest vegetations and you can take nature walks and spot the wildlife yourselves, or join an organized horseback riding tour or an ATV tour. You can also tour around in your own 4-wheel drive, drive into the hills, get out of the car and explore a little bit on foot. It is generally safe in the dry season to do so. In the rainy season you should get advice on road conditions before you head out.

We strongly recommend visiting the Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge, about 20 minutes north of Uvita, where both self-guided walks and guided tours can be taken throughout the day, or you can even stay overnight and experience the nocturnal wildlife.
