7 km north of Nosara, Playa Ostional is long and spacious and mostly deserted, except from July to November, when tens of thousands of olive ridley turtles arrive en masse to nest. This beach is a part of the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, which consists of 8 miles of beaches covering Playas Ostional, Nosara, Pelada and Guiones, and is one of the world’s most important nesting sites for olive ridley turtles, although leatherback and Pacific green turtles are also spotted occasionally.
