79 km from Daniel Oduber International Airport, the Nosara area has three of the most unspoiled beaches in Costa Rica - Playa Pelada, a small and pretty white sand beach; Playa Guiones, long and expansive with good surf breaks; Playa Nosara, a turtle nesting beach with an estuary and a large mangrove forest that offer endless activities for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Private beach homes, hotels and restaurants scatter through miles of forest teeming with wildlife such as howler monkeys, iguanas, pizotes, and birds. The pristine nature of Nosara is somberly guarded by a large international community who call this area home. The hills of Nosara are dotted with affluent vacation homes with forest and ocean views, among which, many are reasonably priced vacation rentals. For really affordable beach rentals, look behind Playa Guiones and Play Pelada - apart from not having an ocean view, beach houses here can be a real bargain for both short term and long term renters.

About 5 km from the beaches, the village of Nosara offers nightlife, a yoga institute, and all kinds of tourist amenities and services. There is an airstrip in the outskirt of the village for daily commuter flights from San Jose. For those who are driving from San Jose, allow 5 hours driving for the 228 km journey. From Liberia, allow 2 hours.
