About Playa Samara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
This long white sand beach with shallow and gentle waters is one of the best bathing beaches in Costa Rica...
Samara is a thriving fishing and farming community with a pleasant mix of European and Tico residents. Tree-lined Samara beach is uncrowded and offers miles of shades for reading and sea-gazing. The long, white sand beach with shallow, gentle waters is one of the best bathing beaches of Costa Rica, and one of the safest for families on vacation with kids. Other popular family activities in Samara include tours to watch dolphins, to the mangrove swamps, waterfalls and nearby islets. Although the village is growing fast, it has managed to retain its regular way of life and a relaxed atmosphere. There are several sodas, a handful of restaurants and bars, and even a disco in town; various small shops and stalls sell clothing and souvenirs; the supermarket is well stocked and fresh bakeries are available. Accommodation choices includes hotels, bed & breakfast, cabinas and private homes.
Samara is easily accessed via Nicoya, the cultural capital of Guanacaste, 35 minutes away by a paved road; it’s a 2-hour drive from the Daniel Oduber International Airport, and 4.5 hours from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Sansa Air flies to the regional Samara/Carillo airport daily.
