About Playa Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
The “new Tamarindo†with tourism booming and town facilities sprouting quickly along the 5-km dirt road...
The Santa Teresa area has been called the “new Tamarindo” due to booming tourism and a vibrant surfer’s scene. Shops and tourist facilities are sprouting quickly along the 5-km dirt road, including a wide selection of tourist accommodation, from budget beach chalets to luxury beachfront villas to cabinas, hotels and restaurants of international themes. This stretch of long white beach with great waves is a particular favorite of surfers. Many who came for a surf vacation in Costa Rica fell in love with Santa Teresa and never left; adding a foreign flavor to the lively little town. Surf shops and schools abound; many beginners choose Santa Teresa because of its easy going surf.
Apart from surfing, there are other pastimes worth pursuing in Santa Teresa; fishing tours, sunset boat trips, snorkeling, kite surfing, horseback riding, or a canopy tour in Mal Pais. During high season (Dec - Apr) there are often international performance artists staying in Santa Teresa who sometimes offer classes like acrobatics or capoeira. Different styles of yoga are offered in various hotels. For tours to Montezuma or the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco you can rent a car, or go by ATV for an adventurous fun ride. When night falls, the sound of live music fills the town and often there is a party on the beach.
