What is Playa Dominical like?

Playa Dominical is more than a mile long with very different characteristics in the south and north sections; the south side of the beach is great for those looking for peace and quiet; while the north side is full of surfing and party actions.

Well known as a surfers’ beach it has its quiet times for those seeking a morning or evening walk in solitude. This is the main beach of Dominical where the surfers generally hang out and it is a favorite place for the locals.

Surf shops are a plenty and just ask around to get the latest info on the surfing conditions.

You can talk a walk from the estuary where you can find unique surf breaks, to the south through the area known as “Tortilla Flats’, a bit of a varied combination of bars, restaurants, kiosks and the like, a fun place to be in the evening.

Strolling to the south at low tide you can walk through the rocks to a quieter area of nice clean sand and rocky outlets and white surf. Plenty of peace even at peak season.

All in all a popular Costa Rica surf beach all year round.
