Dominical is a safe place to visit. There has never been any reports of violent crimes like those that occur in San Jose. Dominical has good tourist police and the main beaches are well patrolled.

Ticos are characteristically non-aggressive and non-confrontational - see Cultural Perspective for more comments in this regard. Incidents that happen to tourists happen to Ticos too, so it is not that tourists are targeted, not even in San Jose. The worst incidents involve rental cars being broken into and tires being slashed. If you leave your cell phone or wallet visible in the car, it could well invite a break-in, especially on Playa Hermosa, as the offenders have easy and quick exit to the highway from this beach.
