Although we see locals drinking out of the tap in Dominical all the time, we do not recommend that to visitors from another country.

In San Jose and other places in the Central Valley, everyone drinks out of the tap, but it is not recommended in towns and cities along the coast.

Bottled water is available in all restaurants and supermarkets. For those who are staying a few days, 6-liter bottle is the favorite.  If you are staying in a vacation home, it is easy to boil some water daily for drinking.
