Playa Herradura and Los Suenos Resort Tour

The turnoff to Playa Herradura and Los Suenos Golf Resort and Marina from the Pacific coastal highway, about an hour out of San Jose, is at a 4-way intersection where ahead, the Bahia Herradura restaurant is on your left and the Herradura shopping mall complex is on your right. Take a right hand turn at the intersection and the mall is now on your left. This shopping mall has a large and well stocked supermarket, a surf and beach wear shop, radio shack, an art gallery, an optical vision outlet, a video hire centre, a pharmacy, a bike rental outlet and a marine supply shop. At the far end corner of the mall we have the Inka Peruvian Restaurant, a garden patio furniture store and a stationary shop. The Peruvian Restaurant has an outside seating area which can be pleasant on a cool evening; food is pricey but the chef is Peruvian and the dishes are authentic. On the other side of the mall next to the road towards the beach and the resort we see a BAC bank, a Pizza Hut and a Subway. If you are staying at the Los Suenos Resort, all these are less than a 10-minute drive away.

On the way to Herradura Beach we pass Chewey’s Pizza, Herradura Divers who operate sail tours and adventure activities, a bakery, AXR tours and rentals which offers all types of excursions, and the development site of the future La Estancia residential community.

A little further on, we see La Torre apartments, HRG Herradura Real Estate and El Rey Marino restaurant before we reach the Ocean Plaza complex which houses a liquor shop, a laundry facility, the bank of Costa Rica, a marine supply store, a yachting fractional ownership sales outlet, and golf cart rentals.

Opposite, there is a vet shop, soda Katia, some rental cabins, and the boundary of another project development site called Punta Bocana.

As we reach the beach, a right turn leads to a dead-end where a creek runs out to sea from the Los Suenos Resort site; from here one can see the entire Los Suenos Resort spreads out from the beach line up to the hills, and the marina full of boats at the northern end of the Herradura Bay.

Back at the T, a left turn leads to a beach bar and soda, a cerviche stall, the famous Restaurante Pelicano, and its competitor Restaurante Juanita. There are a few private tico houses and cabins on this beach road, and further on towards the southern end of the beach, the project development site of Punta Bocana, poised to be another master-planned luxury resort community like Los Suenos.

Now we turn back and take a drive around Los Suenos Resort; its entrance was on our right side just before we hit the T on the beach. This is a grand master-planned resort community that put Costa Rica on the map among the international golfing and sportfishing jet sets. As you enter through the large gated driveway, we firstly come across the gated entry to the beachfront Del Mar condominium community. A golf practice area is to the right. Ahead we pass a bridge where to the left the golf course expands to the ocean and to the right the Eco Golf Estates of large luxury villas perched at the top of a low ridge overlooking the golf course with an open view to the ocean.

As we head towards the Marina passing the Marriott Hotel, The Colina condominium community is on the right, followed by the gated entry to the Vista Tres Bahia community of estate villas. Both communities offer luxury vacation rentals and their listings can be found on Los Suenos vacation rentals.

The entrance to the Marriott Hotel is to the left opposite the 1st tee of the golf course on the right as we proceed to the Marina and the Marina Village with shops and restaurants. The entrance to the Beach Club is on the left, which is for residents and renters of any Los Suenos luxury homes, condos or villas. The Veranda Residences is close to the Beach Club on the right, so is the estate community of Las Vista. Bella Vista residences soon follow on the left as we approach the Marina.

At the Marina Village there is no shortage of parking spaces. The most visible outlets from the car park are the El Galeon Restaurant and the Hook-up Bar. On the waterfront we come to the Taverna Lounge and an Italian restaurant, a café, an internet place, Los Suenos real estate office, Scotia Bank, an outlet selling glasses and resort wear, an art gallery, an Asian restaurant named Bambu, a beachwear boutique, Blush spa and beauty salon. A lawyer office, National Car Rental and a golf cart rental office are here as well. Further along the walkway we pass an interior design centre, Jimmy T Provisions and Bristol Marine Supply.

That is a quick tour of Playa Herradura and Los Suenos Golf Resort and Marina.
