A short stroll from the villa down a gentle slope leads to a local village with a school, a church and a football field, then onto Dominicalito beach just across the road. Playa Dominicalito is a picturesque beach with a wealth of vegetation and shades, pristine waters and a kilometer long of clean brown sand. At the north and south boundary of the beach the scenery is even more enchanting with rocky outcrops and tidal pools.
Fully furnished with 1500 sq.ft.of space, the villa also has a spacious veranda and balconies surrounded by a profusion of tropical flowering plants. Fully air conditioned and all rooms have ceiling fans. High quality linens and towels, fully equipped kitchen, 2 en-suite bathrooms, full sets of outdoor furniture for the pool area and veranda. The corner lot position provides easy access and parking.
Dominical has a breathtaking setting as the mountains along the coast descend to meet the Pacific Ocean. Most visitors and even Ticos are impressed by the way the rainforest plunges into the sea. Dominical offers an incredible variety of tropical rainforest settings with those world famous ocean views, and many deserted and natural beaches where you can walk for hours.
Game fishing, horse riding tours and trips to Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge are all within 10 to 15 minutes' drive. Surfing instructors and surf shops abound in Dominical town. Whales and dolphins sighting in the Ballena Marine National Park is just 15 km away. The wide variety of wildlife and birds in the Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge can be enjoyed during a self-guided walk or with a trained naturalist guide. The calm waters in the Ballena Marine National Park provides an ideal playground for swimming with dolphins. Horseback riding tour to Nauyaca waterfalls is combined with a visit to a working Costa Rican farm where breakfast and lunch are served. For the more adventurous, join an ATV tour to the twin 600-foot high Diamante Waterfalls. Several national park systems are within easy reach from Dominical, especially Manuel Antonio National Park, which is now just 40 minutes to the north on Costa Rica's newest highway. Corcovado National Park, Ballena National Marine Park, Chirripo National Park and Cano Island Biological Reserve are all just a day trip away.
Between Playa Guapil to the north and Playa Ventana to the south, there are a dozen main beaches and many small unnamed coves, so rent a car and go beach hopping! Each of the beaches is different and unique. Playa Dominical for instance is best known as a surfers’ beach, although it has its quiet times for those seeking a morning or evening walk in solitude. This beach attracts surfers from all over the world and is also a favorite beach for the locals.
Surf shops are a plenty and they are the best source for the latest information on surfing conditions. For a long walk, go from the Baru River estuary where the best surf breaks are, all the way to the next beach called Playa Roca Verde, pass the spot known as “Tortilla Flats’, a strip made up of bars, restaurants, kiosks, hostels and cabins for rent, a fun place to be in the evening. The southern end of Dominical beach is usually quieter with plenty of peace even at peak season.
Dominical downtown offers a variety of restaurants including Sushi, Thai, Italian, Burgers, sandwiches and Tico food. There are many beach bars where surfers and tourists hang out. At Plaza Pacifica the mini supermarket has all the basic grocery and household items, and a wide range of beverages. For more variety, there are two larger supermarkets in Uvita, about 9 miles south of Dominical. For meat and seafood, long time residents prefer to shop in San Isidro where they can also get excellent fresh fruits and vegetables at the weekly farmers market. The supermarkets in Dominical and Uvita however satisfy most visitors on short vacations.

5. Exactly a year ago my friend and I stayed at Canto del Mar for a month and this location was just perfect to get around especially considering that we only had a car for 1 week. You can easily call and take a cab into the town which was only a 5 minute drive and not expensive. For the 1st couple days at Canto del Mar, we stayed in the Pacific View Villa which is on the 3rd tier and the views of the ocean are just breath taking. Then we switched over to the Pacific Breeze Villa which is on the 2nd tier. We still had a view of the ocean but this time it was more a view of the jungle which was really nice as well. Staying at the Villas in Canto del Mar was a great experience and we felt extrememly safe. There are guards 24 hrs a day at the gate where you enter and exit and then every hour at night, there is a guard that walks around the villas to make sure everything is good. The location of the villas is great because you can walk down the hill and be on Dominilcalito beach in a short walk or you could walk to a nearby waterfall and swim there as well. You can take a short cab ride to the grocery store which right next to the downtown Dominical area where all the shops, restaurants, bars and Dominical beach is. We booked our Villas through Elaine and it was such a pleasure and smooth transaction to do so. Even while we were there, she gave us a cell phone to use which really came in handy to call the cabs. Any request we had or question we had, either Elaine came over and helped us or her husband did, who was also very nice. My friend and I still talk about how great our trip was and Elaine really helped to make it that way and we would book again through her. Overall our experience was awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
By Nerissa VentoCT, USAMar 28th, 20124. My husband and I were lucky to have stayed at Cano Del Mar for an extended time during our cold canadian winter. We arrived mid Jan. and had to sadly leave the end of Mar. Upon arrival Elaine met us and showed us around the villa. She was very professional and helpful to us during our visit. We even rented a 3G phone from her to use during our time which was nice to have traveling around the country and for the internet. The view from the villa was breathtaking, everything from the ocean to the jungle of the mountainside and all the fantastic wildlife. We had the fun of watching monkeys, birds, iguanas and a sloth while sitting on the terrace. The villa was spotless and equiped well. We would have liked to have a barbeque since we were there for quite some time. The pool was very nice to cool off in and have a icey drink during the heat of the day. The fishing beach of Dominicalito was just a short walk down the hill and across the main road. We enjoyed our morning runs there as well as nice leisurely strolls during the day. We found we enjoyed this beach over the busy one at Domincal. Sometimes we were the only ones on the beach and other times there would be a few surfers or families swimming and picniking, but still pretty quiet. The beach of Dominical had vendors set up along the roadside and were fun to look at and pick up suveniors at a reasonable cost. The town of Dominical is mostly a surf town with lots of action during the day. We really didn't spend much time there at night. We ate a some of the restuarants in Dominical, Uvita, Oojchal, Jaco, Quepos, Manuel Antonio and San Isidro. Most of our meals were good to very good. We found the little sodas had cheap but fresh meals and excellent service. We also enjoyed the Nauyaca horseback waterfall tour and a boat ride through the mangroves. Elaine set up a car rental for us with Solid which was very good. We had no problems with security while visiting even though we were reminded often to be careful of petty crime. The villa had 24 hr security which was nice. The weather and scenery are fabulous and the people very friendly and more than willing to help you out . We knew very little Spanish and had no problems getting around. We found our Costa Rica vacation to be very relaxing. We would recommend Cano Del Mar to our family and friends.

6. My husband and I just recently stayed at this villa. It exceded our expectations. The unit was very clean and close to all. We loved having our own plunge pool. We rented a car which although seemed expensive was worth it. We traveled up and down the entire coast doing a different our everyday. I definatley would come back to canto del mar again. fyi if you like pinapple there was a stand just outside of town with the most delicious pineapples i have ever had and cheap too. I recommend doing the drive to uvita for grocery shopping. All and all loved this place.
